This month we wanted to highlight AARP and the many fabulous resources they offer. They have specific resources on health, money, work, advocacy, social security, Medicare, games, travel, and caregiving. While our caregivers ages range. A majority of those we work with are older and did not plan for this to be their future. When planning for retirement, most people do not plan to have grandchildren or great grand children in their care full time. So often, we hear from our caregivers that they want to be grandparents not parents. They were supposed to be retired and following the plans they always had. This brings about many stressors, worries, and unexpected changes. We also hear that although this is one of the hardest parts of their life, they wouldn’t have it any other way. The love that our caregivers have for their kin children is profound. The strength our caregivers embody through so many hardships is inspirational. We are so thankful for their strength and perseverance. We want them to know they are not alone. AARP does a wonderful job at highlighting some of those worries and giving you some stories that help you know you are not alone. Visit the link below to see how a couple named Keith and Edit were impacted by an unexpected event that made them primary caregiver to their two grandchildren.
