Published on April 14, 2025

In honor of child abuse prevention month. We wanted to highlight the importance of permanency and family placements regarding child abuse prevention. In so many cases, kinship caregivers are able to provide a safe and stable home for their kinship children. This takes away from so many hardships they may face being placed somewhere else. Guardianship might be the appropriate permanency option for your family and the children you are caring for. As our numbers of Guardianship assistance requests rise. We thought it would be important to highlight guardianship and how we can help. Guardianships: Wyoming Law Nuts and Bolts is an amazing resource from the Attorney General. What is Guardianship- A guardianship is a legal action that gives a caregiver the ability to act as a parent should/would.

Who should pursue a Guardianship- Anyone caring for a child that is not their own and needs to get the child enrolled in school, medical care, or any other important decisions.

Guardianship is not just a notarized piece of paper that gives someone permission to take care of a child. It is a legal action that is filed with the courts.

There are different types of guardianship and different situations that will warrant the different types. As an organization, although we are not lawyers, we are here to help guide you through the guardianship process. There is a guardianship filing fee associated with filing and we can help you either find resources to pay this or pay it on your behalf.

If you have any questions about what is best for you and your family, please reach out to us. We can help as much as we can and will refer you to more intensive legal resources if they are needed.
